Commission Approves Golf
Outing Agreement – Tournament Fee
The Pierre City
Commission has given their approval to a new
golf outing agreement that, when used for
scheduling tournament events at Hillsview golf
course, will allow the assessment of $2.00 per
tournament player. The tournament fee would be
placed in a separate fund and proceeds collected
would support efforts to remodel the existing
clubhouse. It is anticipated that $3,000 would
be raised this season from the tournament fee.
Tom Farnsworth,
Director of Parks and Recreation, says the golf
board will be recommending other avenues to the
City Commission to raise funds to support the
clubhouse project, “As soon as the board
completes their review of the new clubhouse
design and a revised cost estimate, I expect
them to hold a public meeting to inform the
members of Hillsview on the new building concept
and their suggestions to raise the additional
funds.” Farnsworth expects the ideas to be a
combination of funds from the private sector,
special events at the course, potential grants
and a special member assessment beginning in
2009. The goal is to identify sources of
revenue that can service the debt on the remodel
project. Only then is it likely that the City
Commission would allow the project to move
forward.
The golf board has a
special meeting April 17th at noon at
the golf maintenance shop. The public is
welcome.
