ELLENBECKER AND JACOBSON CLAIM FIRST CAPITOL CUP TITLE

Duo Leads Team to Overall Championship

Pierre (SD) --  Teri Ellenbecker and Sandy Jacobson took top honors in the first annual Capitol Cup golf tournament held at the Hillsview Golf Course on Friday, June 24th.  The Capitol Cup tournament required two-woman teams to play six holes of scramble format, six holes of best ball format and six holes of alternate shot format to claim the title.

Ellenbecker and Jacobson combined for the lowest gross score in the three format tournament, carding a round of 68 to edge out Jennifer Stalley and Krista Young for low score honors.  Ellenbecker and Jacobson’s round was the low round of the day in all flights.  Lindsey Brown and Pat Brown carded a 70 to take third place in the First Flight competition.

Roberta Williams and Peggy Stout combined for a round of 70 to set the pace for the Second Flight and claim honors in the division.  Joan Podhradsky and Karen Zakahi carded a 71 to claim second place in the division.  Noreen Plumage and Helen Plumage shot a 73 to claim 3rd place in the Second Flight.

Lynne Guthrie and Laurie Gronlund shot a 72 to lead the Third Flight.  Bridgette Augspurger and Laurie Peterka of Miller took second place in the flight.  Augspurger and Perterka’s 79 aced out Barb Wood and Kit Bruenginer’s 79 in a scorecard playoff.  Angie Bohls and Kristy Hepper rounded out the places in the Third Flight, claiming fourth place with a round of 80.

The teams of Ellenbecker and Jacobson, Brown and Brown, Plumage and Plumage and Guthrie and Gronlund combined to win the overall team Championship and the Capitol Cup Title.  The team championship was determined by a Ryder Cup scoring system that awarded points to each competing team.
