PIERRE GOLF BOARD TO HOST RIBBON
CUTTING, OPEN HOUSE

The City of Pierre Golf Board is
planning a ribbon cutting and open house
at Hillsview municipal golf course
clubhouse and pro-shop on Monday, May
10. The event begins with a 5:15 pm
ribbon cutting by the Honorable Mayor
Laurie R. Gill followed by an open house
hosted by the Golf Board and Hillsview
clubhouse and pro-shop manager Todd
Surdez.
Mayor Laurie R. Gill complimented the
Golf Board for bringing this project to
the City, completing it as scheduled and
within budget, “I thank the Golf Board,
contractors and supporting members of
the community for their hard work. I
know it was a tough winter for our
contractors in which to work but they
got it done. They met the goal of
getting our manger in the building by
May 1 and were within the budget that
was estimated for the project.” Gill
said the Golf Board created a plan and
raised eighty-percent of the funds to
cover the costs. They deserve a lot of
credit in getting this done. Gill said
the City of Pierre now has a facility
that compliments the quality of the
18-hole course and one that will serve
the golfing public for a long time.
Tom Farnsworth, Division Director of
Parks and Recreation for the City of
Pierre said with the exception of some
work outside, the project is essentially
complete, “The City has some landscaping
to finish but we are going to go ahead
with the May 10th open
house.” Farnsworth said it will be an
opportunity for the community to come
out and walk through the building.
Boyd Conzemius, chair of the Hillsview
Golf Board, said members of the board
will be on hand at the open house to
welcome the public and show the new
features, “There is additional seating,
an expanded locker room area, a more
functional kitchen, ADA compliant
bathrooms and pro shop. Conzemius said
the addition of the patio on the south
side of the building provides golfers
with a great view of the course.”
The ribbon cutting and open house will
begin at 5:15 pm. and run into the
evening.
Hillsview
Golf Course to Open April 6 –
Weather Permitting
With
the melting of the snow comes the
official announcement that Hillsview
Golf Course will open for the 2010
season on Tuesday, April 6 at 10 am
weather permitting. However, golfers
interested in practicing on the driving
range can begin using the practice range
on Tuesday, March 30 at 10 am if weather
allows.
Golfers are reminded that they need to
check in at the temporary pro-shop or
office facility located east of the
current clubhouse while the clubhouse is
undergoing its remodel. Manager Todd
Surdez will be available to assist you.
The management and staff at Hillsview
are asking golfers to be aware of the
construction going on around the
clubhouse and to exercise caution.
Staff also would like to remind citizens
that if you are interested in purchasing
or renewing membership at Hillsview you
will need to stop at City Hall at 222
East Dakota St. to purchase your
membership.
Hillsview
Clubhouse -- New Number
Hillsview clubhouse and pro-shop has a
new phone number. The former number of
224-6191 has been changed to 773-6191.
Todd Surdez, Manager of Hillsview
clubhouse and pro-shop is operating out
of a temporary office facility while the
clubhouse is being remodeled. Todd’s
hours vary during the winter months and
construction period. If no answer and
it is an emergency you can call City
hall and leave a message for Todd at
773-2527.
2010
Membership Available
2010 Golf Memberships are now being
sold. Due to the remodeling of the
clubhouse, all 2010 memberships will be
sold this year at the City of Pierre
business office located at 222 East
Dakota Avenue. The City of Pierre will
also be offering an easy bank payment
plan to allow payment of memberships to
be spread over six months or through the
month of June.
